Celebrating PEAK: Highlights From Our Annual Fundraiser

On Thursday September 13th, PEAK celebrated its Annual Fundraiser at the Pro-Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs. The evening featured live music from UCCS student musicians, a spoken-word performance from poet activist LeDerick Horne, and a silent auction, all culminating around this year’s theme: “An Inclusive Tomorrow Starts Today.”

The evening’s activities notably featured the presentation of the inaugural PEAK Allies for Inclusion Awards, presented to three extraordinary individuals: former Colorado State Senator Irene Aguilar, UCCS Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Scott Kupferman, and poet & bridge-builder LeDerick Horne. The awards were co-presented by PEAK Executive Director Barb Buswell and Board President David Meeks. Award winners were selected by PEAK staff for their steadfast commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and equity for all people with disabilities.

PEAK is incredibly grateful to our sponsors for the evening, which included Shandy Clinic, The Melting Pot of Colorado Springs, Weber Street Liquor, Atrevida Beer Company, Durable Life Skills, Stockmens Bank, Handprints Home Health, NTSOC, Arc of the Pikes Peak Region and the Wilson Family Foundation. Because of the generosity of our community sponsors and individual donors, PEAK is able to continue its mission of ensuring that all people with disabilities are fully included in their neighborhood schools, communities, places of employment and in all walks of life.
